Emily Stanford

Senior Writer

"I get to sit down with fascinating leaders across all sorts of disciplines and learn what new projects they can’t stop thinking about, what drives their career decisions and what advice they might have for the rest of us. By crafting those insights into articles for First Round Review and episodes for the In Depth podcast, I’m excited by the opportunity to perhaps inspire others to come up with their next big idea."

I believe everyone has an interesting story to tell, you just have to ask the right questions.

As a Senior Writer at First Round, Emily interviews startup founders and operators for longform articles for First Round Review, helps manage First Round’s social channels, and produces the In Depth podcast. Prior to First Round, Emily ran content (including writing blog articles, social media, newsletters and SEO strategy) for Hire by Google, a tool for recruiters at SMBs and mid-market businesses. She spent 4 years at Salesforce, where she ran the corporate blog and wrote thought leadership articles.

Before joining the world of tech and startups, Emily was the editorial assistant for renowned journalist Mike Sager, who wrote the Rolling Stone article that the movie “Boogie Nights” was based on, helping to transcribe his interviews with everyone from Jennifer Lopez to former drug lord “Freeway” Rick Ross. She also is a sports fanatic and covered the Winter 2014 Olympics for Yahoo! Sports.

Emily graduated from San Diego State University with a B.A. in Journalism.
