Brett Berson
"There are few things better than coming up with an idea and seeing it take shape in the world. I've spent the last 15+ years supporting a group of intensely dedicated, brilliant people who do just that. All of us are constantly thinking of new ways to help the founders we invest in build and grow great things."
Creating something remarkable comes from spending more time on it than anyone else would reasonably expect. It’s the amalgamation of thousands of thoughtful micro-decisions — treating the little things like the big things — that adds up to create something truly special.
Brett joined First Round over 15 years ago and carved out a unique role in venture, helping the firm achieve extreme product-market fit itself. He divides his time between building and supporting First Round programs — like The Review, Angel Track, and PMF Method — and investing. He also hosts In Depth, First Round’s podcast.
When Brett started at First Round, there was no Operating Team. Now that team has redefined what startups should expect from their investors — whether it’s connecting founders with the advice they need, crafting the pitch companies need for their next round of funding, or organizing high-utility events. Brett was named one of Forbes’ 30 Under 30 in venture capital in 2015 (even though he thinks these lists are pretty silly).
Before First Round, Brett graduated from New York University, where he earned degrees with high distinction in economics and film — the latter of which came in handy making First Round’s old holiday videos, which generated millions of views.
