When I was three years old and newly verbal, my favorite word was “actually.” I’d tell my parents, “Actually, I’m going upstairs now!” or “Actually, I want ice cream.” I probably just liked the sound of it, but I think my fixation foreshadowed the kind of storytelling I’ve been most drawn to throughout my career as a writer. I like when someone says, “Actually,” and follows it with: “Here’s how things really are,” or “Here’s something you might not have known — or expected.”
Many years later, that interest has brought me to First Round, where I write for The Review and help produce our podcast, In Depth. I love asking the right questions to prompt the most insightful answers. I feel very lucky to be able to interview startup leaders and share their sometimes surprising but always actionable wisdom with the broader tech community.
Prior to joining First Round, I was an editor at Codeword, a communication design agency, where I wrote everything from blogs to social copy to exec speeches for clients like Google and Shopify. Before that, I did content marketing for tech startups at an agency called Propllr in Chicago.
And actually, before all that, I was a ballet dancer. While now I’m washed up with an office job and a hamstring injury, I love to attend dance performances around New York City. I live in Brooklyn, where you’ll often find me hanging out in one of its parks with friends or watching movies new and old.
